Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center (FRC) is a place where families visiting Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital can relax, read, have fun, or work while their child is in the hospital.
While your child is a patient at our hospital, your family can come to the Family Resource Center to:
- Catch up on work in a semi-private office.
- Learn more about your child’s diagnosis.
- Use the internet and computers, with options for printing, faxing, or scanning.
- Check out books for your child.
- Relax in the center and read a book or magazine.
- Drink a complimentary beverage.
- Pick up personal hygiene items, like toothbrushes and shampoo.
- Check out DVDs or DVD players.
Resources and services are available at no charge.

Story Corner
Story Corner is on the ground floor of the Main Building, next to the Family Resource Center. This space is a peaceful place to read on your own, or as a family. You can also pick a book from the shelf to keep as a gift.
Story Corner also has an ‘Ouva Wall,’ which is an interactive screen. When you wave your arms or move around, the screen responds to you. Many of our backdrops are nature scenes found in California. Our Ouva Wall is a way to have fun and learn about the animals and the California coast.
Sophie's Place - The Broadcast Studio
Sophie’s Place – Broadcast Studio is in the Family Resource Center on the ground floor of the Main Building. This team puts on daily shows like Bingo, Jeopardy, Teen Trivia, and cooking demonstrations. Families can come down to studio to watch, or they can watch from the TV in their room.
For Patients in their Room: To watch a show from our studio, tune to Channel 71. Depending on the time of day, you will either see a live show or the schedule for the week.
Our broadcast team often puts on shows with prizes. When there is a possible prize, a telephone will appear on the screen. To play along, call the studio directly at the number below.
